Polestar Precept: From concept to car, episode 7

Automotive design requires expertise, creativity, patience, and flexibility. And more than a couple of bucks.

A screenshot from Polestar Precept: From concept to car ep.7 showcasing a buck in a production facility.

Bucks, in this case, meaning physical models of the car created for assessment and verification purposes. A variety of these bucks are made in order to assess the car’s different aspects: design, ergonomics, and so on.

Automotive design has never had access to a more powerful and diverse array of tools, from CAD (Computer Aided Design) to VR headsets. However, there are some features that can only be assessed in real life, at full scale. Which is why bucks remain such a critical component of the design process. Utilised by both the Polestar R&D team in the UK, and the Polestar Design team in Gothenburg, these bucks travel between locations until all requirements are met and all aspects verified.

Learn more about the design, the process, and the passing of the bucks in episode 7 of “Polestar Precept: From concept to car”.
