Maintenance and treatment of matt paintwork

To care for the matt paintwork, your car must be washed by hand as soon it becomes dirty. This will make it easier to clean your car as the dirt will not be attached as firmly to the car. Clean your car on a cleaning area with an oil separator. Contact Polestar Customer Support if you would like recommendations for detergents and car care products.

Important points to remember when handwashing a car with matt paintwork

  • Rinse the entire car until the dissolved dirt has been removed so as to reduce the risk of scratches from washing. Do not rinse directly onto the locks. Take extra care when using a high-pressure washer. Remember to rinse the chassis, including the wheel arches and bumpers.
  • Wash the car using a microfibre wash mitt and car shampoo with plenty of lukewarm water.
  • Remove bird droppings from the paintwork as soon as possible. They contain substances that damage and discolour paintwork very quickly.
    1. Wetten the area.
    2. Rinse off.
    3. Wash with car shampoo for matt paintwork, use a wash mitt.
Contact Polestar Customer Support for information on how to remove any stains.
  • The best way to remove insects, grease stains and fingerprints is to use a special cleaning agent for matt paintwork. Apply the cleaning agent using a microfibre cloth, using a small amount of pressure.
  • Wipe the car dry with a clean, soft microfibre cloth. Water may stain the paintwork if drops of water are left to dry in strong sunlight.
  • Remember to remove dirt from the drainage holes in the doors and sills after washing your car.
  • Paintwork repairs should only be carried out by an authorised workshop. Contact Polestar Customer Support for workshop recommendations.

 Important

Make sure that doors, windows and hatches are closed for high-pressure washing.

 Important

Never polish a matte coat. Polishing leads to the paint becoming shiny.

 Important

Do not use paint cleaner, grinding agents, polishing products or sheen preservation, e.g. wax for high-gloss paintwork. These products are only intended for glossy surfaces. Shiny spots will appear if they are used on matt paintwork.

 Important

  • Make sure you do not get resin, grease or oil on the car's paint. They may leave residues. Remove immediately using a detergent for matt paintwork.
  • Remove asphalt stains on the paintwork using a vegetable-based asphalt remover. Contact Polestar Customer Support for product recommendations.

Proceed with caution and do not press too hard on the painted surface.

 Important

Try not to wash your car in direct sunlight. This may cause the detergent to dry and create a patchy surface on a car with matte paintwork.

 Important

Try not to rub the paint when washing and drying the car. This may destroy the matte effect of the paintwork and leave the paint permanently shiny.

 Important

Do not attach decals to the surface of the paintwork. Glue residues may harm the paintwork.
