How does Polestar Digital Key work?

Polestar Digital Key is a smart, convenient replacement for the traditional car key. An encrypted digital key is stored securely in the owner’s phone, which communicates with the car using an encrypted Bluetooth connection. In Polestar 2, the digital key enables many personalised settings for the driver, enables car sharing and allows for connected Polestar services like pick-up and delivery. Polestar 2 is still provided with a standard key fob for peace of mind.

Question 3

Parking climate and max defroster turns off when I get up from the driver seat to remove ice and snow from the car. How do I turn them on again?

Use the climate menu in your Polestar 2 to turn on parking climate and to keep it running while away from the driver seat. This cannot be activated if the car is in active mode. Parking climate can be turned on for 30 minutes at a time. Please note that the max defroster cannot run at the same time as parking climate.

Where can I get my Polestar serviced?

If your Polestar has to be serviced or repaired, there is an extensive network of authorised service points ready to take care of your car. Check the service locator to find a service point nearby and contact Polestar support to book an appointment. Please note that Polestar spaces are retail environments and not equipped to perform maintenance. However, staff at Polestar spaces are happy to help you with service bookings.

Can I take my car to a Polestar space for service?

What is a Polestar ID?

Accepted Answer

A Polestar ID is a user account tied to the email address you provided when placing your order. An email with an activation link will be sent to you when you need to confirm your account and update your account password.

Is my Polestar ID created automatically when I order my Polestar?

Accepted Answer

Yes, your Polestar ID is created automatically when ordering your Polestar. You need to activate your Polestar ID within 30 days to be able to proceed with your order. This is done by clicking the link in the message which is sent to your provided e-mail address.

Where do I find the VIN-number?

When your order has been assigned a VIN-number, it will be available on your order page which you can access by logging in at Polestar.com with your Polestar ID.

Why does the car require all keys to be in the vehicle when pairing and what happens if I do not have all my keys?

For security reasons, the car requires all physical keys (the main key(s) and the activity key) to be inside the vehicle when pairing the Polestar app for the first time. This is only required when pairing a primary ‘admin’ device to the car and not for any subsequent pairings. If you do not have all keys in the vehicle, the car will display a notification and the pairing process will not be completed.

How can I remotely start the heating in the car?

Accepted Answer

Remote climate control will be available in the Polestar App early 2021. However, by the end of 2020 you will be able to programme the heating timer (setting the heater in your car according to a schedule) from inside the car itself. This functionality will be made available at your next workshop visit or via a future Over-The-Air update. The new software was released towards end of November.

My car is charging to 100% even though I set the limit to 80% or another level. Why does that happen?

We are aware that this is happening with a few of our cars. This will not affect your warranty. We are working on a future software update which will solve the problem.

Is it possible to set a charging schedule for the car?

This functionality will be available in the Polestar App mid 2021. If you have a smart wallbox, this may allow for scheduled charging.

I received an extra metal backup key with my Polestar 2. Why is this and why is it not in a key fob?

Following the introduction of the Polestar Digital Key, Polestar 2 now comes with one key fob and one activity key. Due to a specification error, a number of Polestar 2 cars are being delivered with an extra backup key. This is the slim metal key that is found inside the remote key fob that can be used to open the car manually in the event that the remote key fails. The error is being rectified but there are a number of customers who may receive this extra key.
