The Polestar 2 Cherrydeck experiment

The hypothesis: Polestar 2 looks at home in any environment. The reasoning: Polestar 2’s minimalistic, modern design is the logical next step from Polestar 1, which was proven to look good against any backdrop during a previous photo contest. So, to test our hypothesis, we held the contest again, with Polestar 2 as the subject.

Teaming up once again with photography platform Cherrydeck, we chose 21 photographers to get behind the wheel of our all-electric fastback, with the mandate to capture it in a wide variety of locations as they road trip through Germany, proving that Polestar 2 is both photogenic and capable of long-haul trips. From those initial 21, seven emerged victorious.

Anton Baranenko is a Cologne-based landscape photographer, passionate about combining light and nature, bringing a personal touch to every composition. “The desire for a more climate-friendly and yet fully mobile world is deeply rooted in me,” he states. “With Polestar 2 I am sure that we’ll go a long way towards achieving this.”

“Pairing the car with contemporary architecture allowed for a beautiful juxtaposition of the sleek sculptural qualities of the car next to the imposing volumes of concrete,” says Berlin-based George Kroustallis, an award-winning photographer and creative director with a keen eye for contemporary aesthetics. “Polestar 2 encapsulates what legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright famously wrote: ‘Form and function are one’”.

Christopher Ayumu Nakahara is a photographer, videographer, and Masters’ graduate who calls Düsseldorf home. He’s honed his composition, placement, and scale skills while travelling throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia. “There are many reasons why this car is mesmerizing,” he says. “Maybe it’s the minimal design, maybe it’s the handling which makes Polestar 2 seem less like a machine and more like a part of yourself.”

Tim Hasl of Frankfurt is passionate about photography and automotive, making him uniquely suited for this particular challenge. “For me, the Polestar 2 combines an aesthetic, timeless design with driving performance, all without emissions and noise,” he enthuses.

“It was clear to me to take the shots at the beach to showcase the freedom of a modern electric car,” says Hamburg’s Leo Rohrsetzer, a professional fashion photographer. Travelling Germany in a Polestar 2 offered new locations in the background, and a new subject in the foreground.

Noah Benjamin is a Stuttgart-based automotive and lifestyle photographer. His abiding interest in all things car-related made this contest ideal for him. “You can't get enough of the design. Clean beautiful lines with a distinctive solid taillight,” he states. “It was hard to give it back.”

The portfolio of Munich’s Andy Fox contains action shots, landscapes, and high-profile commercial studio work. This challenge offered an entirely new milieu. “The drives on the narrow roads at the foothills of the Alps, in total silence, made me feel totally in harmony with my surroundings,” he remembers.

The hypothesis has been tested. The experiment was a success. It’s now a fact that Polestar 2 looks at home in any environment.

And we have the photographic results to prove it.
