Control the navigation system with voice control

Voice control can be used so that you can issue voice commands to control parts of your navigation system.

Start navigation

An introduction to how you can start using voice control to control the navigation system in the car is presented here.

To activate a navigation command

Press the PS-1926-Voice control button button on the steering wheel for voice control.
You can now give commands, e.g. "Navigation", which starts a navigation dialogue and shows examples of commands.

Using voice control to get directions to an address

The voice command Go to followed by the address is used in order to get directions to a specific address. The order in which the address is given is important. To use voice control to get directions to an address, you have to state the address in the following order: (1) street address, (2) street number, (3) town, as shown in the following example:

Give the command Go to.
You can now state the address to which you want directions.
State the street address, e.g. "High Street"
State the street number, e.g. "five"
State the town, e.g. "Birmingham"
In this case, the combined command would be "Go toHigh Street five, Birmingham". Directions to the address are now provided by your navigation system, provided that the address can be found in the system.

Using voice control to get directions to an address in another country or state

Your navigation system downloads sets of maps for the country or state detected as the car's location. This means that to get correct directions to a different country or state, you first need to tell the system the name of the country or state in which the address that you want to drive to is located. This is done by using the Change country or Change state command (Command Change state is used mainly in the USA. The Change country command is used in the example below.)

Give the command Change country.
You can now state the country where the address to which you want directions is located, e.g. "Norway".
Now state the address to which you want directions by following the same process as in "Using voice control to get directions to an address".

In this scenario, the merged command is divided into 2 subcommands:

  1. "Change country, United Kingdom"
  2. "Go to Twenty-two High Street, Bristol"

As long as the address is found in the system, your navigation system will now provide you with the route to Twenty-two High Street, Bristol, United Kingdom.

 Note

After changing country, try to pronounce the address you want directions to in the language of the destination country. This is necessary since the system's recognition changes automatically to the language of the selected country.

Using voice control to get directions to an address stated as a Home position

If you have specified an address as a Home position in your navigation system, you can use a voice command to get directions to that position.

Give the command Take me home.
If the navigation system has a home position saved, you will now get directions to that position.

Using voice control to get directions to a location, shop or other specific facility without giving a precise address

You can use your navigation system to get directions to specific locations or specific facility types, known as points of interest (POI1). Restaurants, hotels, petrol stations, museums or tourist attractions are examples of points of interest.

When searching for a point of interest, use the Search command. You can search for both specific points of interest and points of interest categories.

 Note

It is important which command you choose to use for obtaining directions to different alternatives. Please note that when you want directions to a point of interest, use the Search command. This is different from when you want directions to specific addresses. Then the Go to command must be used instead.

Search for a specific location or facility

[POI name] here refers to a specific location or facility known as a point of interest, e.g. a hotel, restaurant, urban park, etc.

Give the command Search.
You can now state a specific point of interest to which you want directions.
State [POI name], e.g. "The New Forest"
In this case, the combined command would be "SearchThe New Forest". Directions to the location are now provided by your navigation system, provided that the location can be found in the system.

Searching for a points of interest category, e.g. shops, hotels, restaurants, museums or other tourist attractions or facilities

[POI category] here refers to specific location or facility types known as points of interest, e.g. hotels, restaurants, museums, etc.

Give the command Search.
You can now state the kind of point of interest that you want to find and to which you want directions.
State [POI category], e.g. "restaurants"

In this case, the combined command would be "Searchrestaurants". The navigation system will now search for restaurants in and around the vicinity of the car and present a list in your driver display. The list displayed is made up of suggestions produced by the system on the basis of your command. Categories and close results appear at the top, and less relevant suggestions appear further down in the list.

As you are looking for a category in this example, it may be a good idea to select the category option closest to your search.

Select the category that is most appropriate for what you were searching for in the list, in this case "restaurant/s", by stating the number of the line in which the option appears in the driver display.
You can now see your search results and select an option that suits you.

Using voice control to cancel directions

If you want to cancel directions and all stops and the final destination, you can use a voice command for this.

Give the command Clear itinerary.
The navigation system cancels the directions and deletes all stops and the final destination along your route.

How to say postcodes and house numbers

The number commands are stated differently depending on the function to be controlled:

  • Postcodes must be spoken individually, number by number, e.g. "zero three one two two four four three" (03122443).
  • House numbers can be spoken individually or in groups, e.g. two two or twenty-two (22). For some languages, it is also possible to specify hundreds, e.g. 19 hundred and 22 (1922). For English and Dutch, several groups can be said in sequence, e.g. twenty-two twenty-two (22 22). For English, double or triple can be used, e.g. double zero (00). Numbers can be given within the range 0-2300.
