Yearly Highlights 2022

Some might measure a year in sunrises, sunsets, or cups of coffee. But at Polestar, a year is measured in moments. Through groundbreaking innovations, milestones, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, 2022 has been quite the journey. Some moments have been big, and others have been huge. You get 525,600 minutes to spend each year. This is how we spent ours.

Large crowd of people gathered in the Polestar space at the bell-ringing ceremony in New York.

On June 24th, we reached a milestone as a company by listing on the Nasdaq in New York under the ticker PSNY. This moment marked the end of the beginning and the start of our next chapter, as we welcomed new shareholders, and customers, to join us on our journey towards sustainable mobility. On June 28th, the iconic bell-ringing ceremony took place at a buzzing Time Square, and Polestars all over the globe gathered to celebrate this historic day.

Another unforgettable moment was the world premiere of Polestar 3 in Copenhagen. On October 12th, 900 guests gathered at a former locomotive workshop in the Danish capital to launch the SUV for the electric age. Our very own Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, and Maximilian Missoni, Head of Polestar Design, took to the stage to present it to the world.

While making company history, we were also busy expanding the Polestar universe, as we launched eight new markets: the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Ireland, Hong Kong, Spain, Portugal, Israel, and Italy. As of now, we are live in 27 markets.

In addition, we produced our 100 000th Polestar 2. This means we have gone from 0-100,000 in just two-and-a-half years. But that’s not all. The carbon footprint of Polestar 2 has now become 1,7 tonnes lighter thanks to sustainability upgrades.

Speaking of sustainability, we attended New York Climate Week to spread our messages, exchange ideas, and build new alliances with companies and organisations that share our agenda. This was also an important steppingstone to COP27 (the United Nations Climate Change Conference) held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, which we attended virtually from our HQ studio in Gothenburg, to minimise our environmental impact.

And it didn’t stop there. We launched an open call for research and collaboration, inviting potential partners with the right knowledge, skills, or insights to join our moonshot goal of creating a truly climate-neutral car by 2030, dubbed the Polestar 0 project

Since we thought we didn’t have enough going on we also had the time to co-engineer, co-design, and colour-coordinate the Allebike Alpha Polestar edition, in collaboration with the Swedish high-end bicycle company Allebike

Some of our other favourite moments from 2022:

KOJA was built in Fiskars, southwestern Finland, and became the first submission from the Polestar Design Contest to be realised in 1:1 scale. We found ourselves a new visual expression while experimenting with motion and colour: Motion Blur. Our electric roadster concept was brought to sunny Pebble Beach where we announced that we plan to produce it in 2026 as the Polestar 6.We went to our favourite festival Goodwood Festival of Speed (of course), where the public got a first glimpse of the Polestar 5 prototype, as it blitzed up the iconic Goodwood hill.

We took journalists and Polestar 2 north of the Arctic Circle to express how well the electric fastback performs under extreme conditions, and created a one-off special version to celebrate our expertise in this area.

We also invited journalists, and our partners Öhlins, Brembo and Pirelli, to the famous Ascari Race Resort in southern Spain for a test drive of the Polestar 2 BST edition 270: our limited-edition Polestar 2.

For the second year in a row, we marched in our home town’s West Pride parade in bright orange to make a clear statement that Polestar stands with the LGBTQ+ community.

And we made an appearance at the Big Game, since standing on the sidelines simply wasn’t an option for us.

We all know time is a valuable commodity. This year we’ve spent 525,600 minutes writing our history. 2022 has been an extraordinary year with lots to celebrate. But we’re not done. We can’t wait to see what’s to come in 2023.
