Kindred spirits: Lisa Nordström

There are the sounds of Polestar: the idling, driving, and reversing sounds created by sound engineers to let bystanders know when the all-electric Polestar 2 is in motion. Then, there’s the Polestar sound: the music that encapsulates the brand, that is as much a part of our identity as our design language, our colour palette, and our symbol. And to create it, we enlisted the help of Lisa Nordström.

A composer, musician, and artist, Lisa Nordström creates everything from film scores to experimental radiophonic compositions from her base in Gothenburg’s Svenska Grammafonstudion. Known internationally for her work with Midaircondo, her numerous international festival appearances, her documentary Sonica Sequence, and her solo albums, Nordström received the 2010 Composer of the Year award from Manifest (a prize for independent record labels in Sweden) and SKAP (“Sveriges Kompositörer och Textförfattare”, the Swedish Society of Songwriters, Composers and Authors).

We sat down with Lisa to discuss spontaneity, the importance of taking risks, and how she’s defined Polestar through music.
