In The Front Seat: Kyle Chalmers, Olympic Gold Medalist

Kyle burst onto the scene as a teenager at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and has amassed an incredible nine Olympic medals since. But all that silverware has come at a cost, physically and mentally. In this episode of In The Front Seat, Polestar Australia Managing Director, Scott Maynard speaks with Kyle about the highs and lows of life as an Australian swimmer, his experience as a new father, how he's shaping the next generation of athletes, and the steps he's taking to live a more sustainable life.

Trying to live a sustainable lifestyle is really important to me and important to my family.
Kyle Chalmers, Professional Swimmer & Olympic Gold Medallist

Taking a drive through the picturesque Adelaide Hills in Polestar 4, the Olympian and Polestar Ambassador shares insights into the mental and physical challenges he faced early on in his journey following his success in Rio, and the moment he even considered giving up swimming entirely. Through speaking up and being honest about his challenges, he was able to build a powerful support network, overcome his obstacles and reignite his passion for the sport. Today, he is a restless competitor. Proud of what he’s achieved so far, but never content, with his sights set firmly on future success.

Kyle also shares how becoming a father has amplified his commitment to a sustainable lifestyle, demonstrated at his home in rural Hahndorf. From the installation of solar panels, solar batteries and home-charging, to establishing a smallholding with an ambition for self-sufficient food sources. Kyle is motivated by the environmental benefits of going electric, but confesses he’s been pleasantly surprised by the economic upside.
