A celebration of taste: Reflecting on the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival

Polestar and the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival know a thing or two about taste. With a focus on delivering premium culinary experiences across some of Victoria’s finest restaurants, the ‘pairing’ of Polestar as the festival’s official automotive partner brought together two brands with a shared vision for curated, sustainable, and elevated experiences.

A curated collaboration

A mainstay of Victoria’s cultural calendar, the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival transforms Melbourne and its surrounding regions into a hub of tasty activity.

The 2026 festival brought together leading chefs, local producers, and epicureans for more than 200 events across 10 days, in a mix of high-end dining and accessible public experiences. A fleet of 100% electric Polestar 4 cars was supplied to provide sustainable transport for VIPs and chefs travelling between restaurants, wineries, and activations.

Partnering with the festival for the first time, Polestar presented the flagship Regional Road Trip and Global Dining Series programs.

The Regional Road Trip highlighted culinary excellence outside of Victoria’s capital, including Messmates in Warragul, the Euro-inspired restaurant built around a strong table-to-plate philosophy, sourcing seasonal produce directly from local growers to reduce both emissions and food waste.

The Global Dining Series placed chefs from across the world in select Melbourne restaurants, where they collaborated with local staff to bring their innovative food to Melbourne. Operating at iconic venues such as Stokehouse on St Kilda beach, and the architecturally-designed Yiaga in Fitzroy Gardens, the program galvanises the city’s global food reputation while creating moments of genuine cultural exchange.

Designing sustainable experiences

Across the program, sustainability, design, and innovation were expressed through the venues and experiences themselves. Polestar’s focus on sustainable electric mobility sat naturally alongside the festival’s growing emphasis on environmentally conscious dining experiences, reflecting a broader shift across the industry.

When the original Stokehouse was destroyed by fire, the rebuild became an opportunity to rethink what a modern restaurant could be. The new design integrates renewable energy and passive environmental principles, from rooftop solar panels to geothermal heating and cooling. Reclaimed timber runs throughout the space, while on-site EV charging reflects a forward-thinking approach to transport. This philosophy extends into the kitchen, where single-use materials and food waste are actively minimised. The result is an inviting environment where design and sustainability work together to elevate the fine dining experience.

Venues like Yiaga, nestled within the historic caretaker’s cottage in Fitzroy Gardens, demonstrate how architecture and atmosphere shape the dining experience as much as the food itself. At Messmates in Warragul, a table-to-plate philosophy reinforces a deep connection to locality, with seasonal produce sourced directly from nearby growers, including the owners’ family farm.

Together, these venues highlight a shared commitment to provenance, mirroring Polestar’s own approach to reshaping the automotive industry. Just as chefs and restaurants consider every element of the dining experience, Polestar applies the same level of intention to our cars.

Considered materials, functional minimalist design and electric performance are carefully balanced to create a driving experience that is both refined and responsible. Pair this with power from renewable electricity and you create a holistic driving experience where sustainability is embedded in luxury design.

Beyond the dining table

Over time, the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has evolved beyond a showcase of gastronomic talent into a space where the hospitality industry challenges itself to innovate. While still primarily a celebration of Melbourne’s multicultural identity and the diversity of its food culture, it also generates deeper conversations about responsibility. This year’s tagline, “Here, try this,” captures that spirit of curiosity and exchange, inviting people to engage with new ideas as we shift toward more thoughtful experiences, both on the plate or on the road.
