Clarifications with Klarén: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
The environmental impact of a product goes far beyond its production. Books don’t start and finish with the first chapter, after all. The entire story must be told.
This is where the Life Cycle Assessment, or LCA, comes in. An LCA is a study done to determine the environmental impact of a product. It also provides a framework to measure said impact, along with steps towards a stated goal, such as how to make that product more sustainable. An LCA report shows the findings of this study.
Listen as Polestar Head of Sustainability Fredrika Klarén explains the Polestar 2’s carbon footprint as detailed in our own LCA report, and the importance of using clean energy, above.
When in Rovaniemi
Do as the locals do. Words of wisdom that any seasoned traveller is familiar with. They don’t just govern behavior, however. They speak to the importance of having an open mind, embracing new customs, and adapting to one’s surroundings. There are equivalents in all languages. In English, one is told that “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”. It counts for the Italian capital, just as it counts for northern Finland. Which is exactly where we headed this winter.
Yearly Highlights 2022
Some might measure a year in sunrises, sunsets, or cups of coffee. But at Polestar, a year is measured in moments. Through groundbreaking innovations, milestones, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, 2022 has been quite the journey. Some moments have been big, and others have been huge. You get 525,600 minutes to spend each year. This is how we spent ours.
First things first: sustainable materials
When facing problems, we are often told to go to the root of the issue. The issue of recycling and sustainability is no different. Climate change cannot be solved through ad-hoc solutions. It requires a restructuring of our manufacturing processes, from beginning to end. Our cars begin with raw materials. So that is where we must start, on our journey towards true sustainability.
