Transparency is accountability. And it is vital in creating an accelerated shift to sustainable, electric mobility.

Our entire industry needs to change, and Polestar is no exception. But enabling change starts with admitting it’s required. Focusing on our four pillars – transparency, circularity, climate neutrality and inclusion - our Sustainability Report for 2022 is both an honest assessment of where we are today and a roadmap to where we need to be.

  • Climate neutrality

In this year's report, there is much to be optimistic about. While we grow as a company, the total greenhouse gas emissions from our value chain are increasing. However, our efforts to decouple this relationship between growth and increasing emissions are seeing some results. During the year, greenhouse gases per sold car went down compared with 2021, continuing the downward trend from the previous year. Furthermore, the Polestar 0 project continued to attract partners and, via these relationships, important research projects were initiated.

  • Circularity

In 2022, together with Circle Economy and STENA Recycling, we set out to estimate the impact Polestar 2 has on important circularity issues - raw material consumption, biodiversity and recyclability. These studies led to new proposals on how we can improve refurbishment, remanufacture, reuse and recycling.

  • Transparency

What does it take to build a Polestar? In this year’s Sustainability Report, you can discover more about our latest Product Sustainability Declaration. You’ll also find details of how material traceability has increased to include cobalt, mica, lithium, nickel as well as leather and wool.

  • Inclusion

Polestar continues to take positive steps towards our gender equality targets as well as in the areas of human rights, ethical business practices and inclusive customer experience. Committed to responsible business, we execute appropriate due diligence processes and our Code of Conduct is the basis for how we act. For example, on Polestar 2 and 3, we have by agreement secured commitments from all direct suppliers on issues including equality, working conditions, forced labor and wages.
