Creating a digital key

The car's owner can create a new digital key at any time in settings.

 Note

Digital key availability

Some devices might not be compatible with the digital key. If you're not sure if your device supports digital keys, check with your phone's manufacturer.

Before starting to set up a digital key in your car, make sure that:
  • the car is stationary
  • all of the doors are closed
  • both your car and your phone are connected to the internet
  • both your car and your phone are updated to the latest software version
  • Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
  • you have a valid key with you, such as a key fob or key card
  • you have access to the Polestar ID registered to the car owner's account.1

 Tip

Activation link

If you have received an activation link via email, you can also use this link to start the setup process.

Press the car symbol in the bottom bar and go to Settings.
Go to Profiles and select the owner profile.
Go to KeysSet up digital key.

Follow the guide.

You should have received a pairing code via email. When prompted, enter the pairing code into your phone's wallet app.

If pairing is successful, your digital key appears in your phone's wallet app.

 Tip

If your car doesn't seem to recognise your digital key at a distance, try turning your phone's Bluetooth setting off and then on again.

After creating a digital key

Once you've set up your digital key, you can share it with family and friends. Open the digital key in your phone's wallet app to find the sharing option. This lets you send an invitation link to the person you want to share the key with. Opening this link on the device that they want to store their key on opens the setup guide in their wallet app.

 Note

Assigning the digital key to a profile

After setting up your digital key, make sure you assign it to one of the user profiles. This way, all of the preferred settings associated with that profile will be applied when you unlock the car. If you don't assign the key to one of the user profiles, the guest profile will be selected whenever you use your digital key.

Sharing limitations

To share your digital key, the person you share it with needs to have the same brand of phone.

  1. 1 If you're not the car's owner, you can't create your own digital key. You need to ask the owner to share their digital key with you instead.
