Taking “performance” to a new area: exploration.

One of the more extreme interpretations for the contest, NEXT is a vehicle made for rugged terrain. Instead of the usual sports car expression of performance, this large off-roader goes beyond existing SUV designs to express “performance” as “adapting the advantages of the electric motor for the possibility to explore and discover the unknown” according to its designer, student Wang Hao.

Very much a form-lead design, Polestar Next is defined by its single fuselage volume with bold intersecting black graphics set off with Swedish gold details, all floating over large free-standing wheels with vestigial fenders.

NEXT embodies a form of “performance” that’s less about ultimate speed, and more about driving beyond designated roads, exploring the unknown, and the associated performance metrics of altitude and wade depth.
