If you want to know what the future of technology looks like, CES is the place to be. As the global stage for innovation, this cross-sector event is a mecca for technological breakthroughs, making it just the place for brands to showcase their new designs and tech.

Do as the locals do. Words of wisdom that any seasoned traveller is familiar with. They don’t just govern behavior, however. They speak to the importance of having an open mind, embracing new customs, and adapting to one’s surroundings. There are equivalents in all languages. In English, one is told that “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”. It counts for the Italian capital, just as it counts for northern Finland. Which is exactly where we headed this winter.

We spoke with Dr Warren Bowden, the company’s Head of Innovation and Sustainability, about sustainability credentials, and about keeping up with changing trends and demands. With fruity leather alternatives popping up here and there, we got his view on the role of leather in next-generation car interiors.

Some might measure a year in sunrises, sunsets, or cups of coffee. But at Polestar, a year is measured in moments. When facing problems, we are often told to go to the root of the issue. The issue of recycling and sustainability is no different. Climate change cannot be solved through ad-hoc solutions. It requires a restructuring of our manufacturing processes, from beginning to end. Our cars begin with raw materials. So that is where we must start, on our journey towards true sustainability.

To reach climate neutrality we have to start from the beginning. Rethink and redo. Explore, develop, and compare. When choosing materials, and how to design with them, sustainability has to be top of mind. It can’t be achieved at a later stage of the process. It must be ensured from step one.

To progress, we must first assess. Attribute prototype cars are put through their paces to assess how well the different parts work, and how they can be improved upon.
