Digital key is a smart, convenient replacement for the traditional car key. An encrypted digital key is stored securely in the owner's phone wallet and allows you to lock, unlock, and start your car with your phone or smart watch. You can share keys without meeting physically and use your phone as key for up to 5 hours if it runs out of charge. This allows you time to get to your car, unlock and start it, and then charge your phone in the car. In Polestar 3, the digital key enables many personalized settings for the driver by using ultra-wideband, Bluetooth low energy and NFC technology. The ultra-wideband has a very precise localization of the device, which enables the vehicle's approach recognition.
Using NFC: Add your Polestar 3's digital key to your phone's Wallet. Then hold your phone or smartwatch near the door handle to unlock. It's easy, convenient, and secure.

The primary driver can securely share and manage key access with others. The system integrates with the car's profile memory, allowing it to store preferred settings for up to six drivers.
Shared keys can be revoked remotely by the primary driver. As the primary driver, you can do this either on the center display or using their phone's Wallet. When a digital key connected to Polestar 3 is revoked from your phone's Wallet, it will not be directly deactivated due to security reasons. The digital key is fully disabled after one driving cycle or 48 hours, depending on which one happens first.
We are currently working with some additional testing and development required for Android devices and expect to make it available in the beginning of 2025 for Google and Samsung devices.
Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 have an advanced standardized digital key solution and utilize its technology by having the digital key in your phone's Wallet.
In contrast, Polestar 2 primarily utilizes Bluetooth, along with a cloud connection, to enable the digital key on the Polestar app. As the CCC-standard for digital key wasn't available at the time Polestar 2 was developed and released, it doesn't support this new standard. Therefore, the hardware and implementation at the time was the best solution for Polestar 2.
When a factory reset is performed, all digital keys connected to the car will be deleted. If no profile is in use, the car defaults to the guest profile. The guest profile cannot be deleted.
Just remove your car key from Apple Wallet following these easy steps:
1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Wallet.2. Select your car key.3. Tap the "More" button.4. Then, to delete a key, just tap "Remove Key".
Only the owner profile can share their digital key. Shared keys cannot be shared further.
If your iPhone has run out of battery, your car key in Apple Wallet will still work. Power reserve provides up to five hours of access, so you can still get inside.
If your iPhone or Apple Watch is misplaced or lost, your car key in Apple Wallet will be suspended once the device is marked as "lost" in the Find My app. Your car key in Apple Wallet will be reactivated once your device is recovered. For more support, please visit getsupport.apple.com/solutions
If your iPhone or Apple Watch is stolen or completely lost, you can still use the ultra-wideband key or NFC key card to unlock your car and access the owner profile on the car's center display to delete any linked digital key. If you have any shared keys on other devices, they will remain active until they are manually deleted.
