Battery preconditioning
Set a DC fast charger as your destination
Battery preconditioning automatically starts when a DC fast charging station is set in the built-in navigation app. This means that the battery will reach the ideal temperature for maximum charging speed, leading to a reduced charging time.
Note
Plan your trip
In very cold conditions, the battery might need preconditioning for longer than 40 minutes to reach the ideal temperature. Make sure to plan your route at the start of your trip by setting the charging station as a destination. This way, your vehicle can begin preconditioning in time. On long trips with multiple stops, ensure that the charging station is prioritized and is your first stop in the route guidance.
Charging speed and battery level
Charging speed is also related to your vehicle's battery level. The fastest charging typically occurs at a lower battery level. If you begin DC charging at a higher battery level, the charging performance may be affected.
Capacity and temperature at the charging station
Even if your vehicle’s battery is warm, a very cold charging unit may limit the overall charging speed. If many vehicles are using the same charging station at the same time, the site may not have enough available power to support high-speed charging for everyone. In cold climates, choosing a charger that has been recently used by other drivers may result in better charging performance.
