The emotions of performance: Polestar 6 to enter production

It’s time to get emotional.

Time to create a true connection between those who love performance and the embodiment of a newer, cleaner version of it. Time to remind everyone of the joyful, thrilling experience that driving can be. Time to have fun.

Time to put Polestar 6 into production.

Revealed to the world in March 2022 as Polestar O₂, Polestar 6 will be an electric roadster hardtop. Built on Polestar’s bespoke bonded aluminium platform, developed by Polestar R&D UK, it will boast an output of up to 650 kW (884 hp) and 900 Nm from a dual motor powertrain, a targeted 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 250 km/h, all made possible through the same high-performance, 800 V electric architecture already confirmed for Polestar 5.

The reaction, though we’d expected it, exceeded our assumptions. This was a concept we’d prepared not only to showcase material and technological innovations, or even to show what’s next in our ever-evolving design story, but because it was fun. Roadsters make the hearts of any automotive enthusiast sing. Of course we want to make our own. Moreover, we want to make something that will speak to the emotions of anyone who feels the siren call of the open roof and the open road.

And we want to do it cleanly.

Roadsters have famously been associated with consumption, colossal engines, and noise. To call that paradigm outdated is an understatement. What we need is a new definition of performance, as embodied by the electric roadster. Lowering the top shouldn’t lead to a lungful of pollution. It should be the removal of a barrier between the driver and the car, the environment and the experience.

“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality,” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”

Good design enables emotional connections. Those connections make one want to use a product, to spend more time with it. And it’s long been proven that people feel an emotional attachment to their cars. Especially so with roadsters. Which brings us to another reason to release a fully electric hardtop.

It will bring more people over to the side of clean, sustainable, electric performance.

Marking the release of Polestar 6 will be the production of 500 numbered units of the “Polestar 6 LA Concept edition”. They will be realised in the “Sky” blue exterior, light leather interior, and distinctive 21-inch wheels of the original Polestar O₂ concept, the version that instantly won hearts and minds when it was unveiled in the Gores Group building in Beverly Hills.

Fittingly, the announcement that Polestar 6 will go into production was made in the same state in which Polestar O₂ was revealed, though not in Los Angeles. The news was proclaimed in Monterey, on California’s picturesque Central Coast, during Polestar’s appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering events during Monterey Car Week.

With Polestar 6, it’s time. Time to usher in a new form of performance. Time for a roadster to capture the heart without compromising the conscience.

Time to get emotional.
