Spotify Group Sessions Beta allows friends to share control of playlists

Everyone knows that driver. The one who lays claim to the audio system as soon as the car hits the road, blasting his or her favorite album on repeat. Well, this one goes out to all you passengers. It’s time to take a stand, it’s time to put an end to drivers monopolizing the playlist.

We all know that sometimes the driver doesn’t have the best taste in music and my family tends to agree. The addition of Group Sessions Beta from Spotify is a great way for others in the vehicle to influence the playlist – and enjoy their favorite tracks.

The time for a more egalitarian in-car audio experience is here, one that doesn’t involve swinging an AUX (auxiliary) cord around. Now every Polestar 2 that has the Spotify app installed will feature Spotify Group Sessions Beta. This means that passengers with Spotify Premium accounts have the ability to play media in the car without having to log in and out of different accounts and, most importantly, without requiring the driver to manage playlists or queued songs.

“We all know that sometimes the driver doesn’t have the best taste in music and my family tends to agree. The addition of Group Sessions Beta from Spotify is a great way for others in the vehicle to influence the playlist – and enjoy their favorite tracks,” Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, insightfully notes.

By scanning a code from the Spotify app in Polestar 2, using the same app on a smartphone, passengers can join a group session. In doing so, their device is linked to the car’s app, and they are free to queue songs, podcasts, and playlists. In the case the driver truly cannot see the beauty of their pick, however, that person can always revoke access.

The end of drivers’ audio monopoly could see the beginning of an eclectic mix of genre-blending playlists. Now all passengers get their chance to share their favorite tunes. Take your pick.
