Simplicity and innovation: principles that drive Polestar and industrial designer David Caon.

When it comes to great design, the worlds of cars, furniture, and even aviation aren’t as far apart as they might seem. At their best, they share the same core principles: simplicity, innovation, and an ability to make life not just easier, but richer. That’s why Polestar has announced a new partnership with acclaimed Australian industrial designer David Caon, founder of Caon Design Office.

What resonates with me most about Polestar is its commitment to progressive, minimalist design.

Caon is recognised internationally for his award-winning work across product design, interiors, aviation, and transportation. His design approach is grounded in simplicity and clarity — qualities that align closely with Polestar’s own minimalistic Scandinavian ethos.

“What resonates with me most about Polestar is its commitment to progressive, minimalist design,” Caon said. “It’s design that doesn’t shout, but speaks with clarity and purpose, backed by a deep investment in sustainable innovation and advanced materials.”

For Polestar Australia Managing Director Scott Maynard, the partnership reflects a natural alignment of values. “Polestar believes in the power of design, and its ability to make the world a better place,” Maynard said. “From furniture to long-haul aircraft, David and his team have earned a reputation for pioneering new solutions to countless design challenges. It’s this dogged pursuit of excellence that aligns with Polestar’s own uncompromising approach.”

As part of the collaboration, Caon will take the wheel of the Polestar 3. With its award-winning design, luxurious interior featuring sustainable materials, and dynamic performance more akin to a sports car, the SUV represents Polestar’s vision of the electric age.

The announcement comes during Sydney Design Week and off the back of Sydney Contemporary 2025, where Polestar once again appeared as Automotive Partner. Running from 11–14 September, the fair is the largest and most diverse gathering of contemporary art galleries from Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and around the world. Now in its 9th year, it’s an unmissed staple for those within Australia’s art scene.

Polestar’s activation, Performance Illuminated, saw the Polestar 4 take on an unexpected artistic role — its distinctive rear light sequence used as a “brush” to create photographic artworks in uniquely Australian landscapes.

David Caon also attended as a guest of Polestar at the event, appearing in an exclusive VIP experience for customers and friends of Polestar.

At its core, the partnership between Polestar and David Caon is about more than cars or products. It highlights a shared belief that design can transform how we live — through clarity, innovation, and with purpose.

Picture this: You’re road-tripping around Australia in a Polestar. You might be cruising along sun-drenched coastal drives, with the windows down, salt spray in the air, and a playlist that’s perfectly curated. Or perhaps you’re winding your way through the lush rainforests, gliding through hills and valleys, and taking in the unique sounds of Australia’s wildlife from your quiet Polestar ride. Maybe you’re embarking on a quick weekend getaway to wine country, eager to unwind in the hills and taste some of our finest exports. Responsibly, of course. Australia offers so much for those who travel by road. With an ever-changing landscape stretching across thousands of kilometers, there’s always something new to discover from the driver’s (or passenger’s) seat. As we transition into the electric age, driving a Polestar while staying at one of Baillie Lodges’ luxurious locations becomes just as much a part of the experience as the destination itself.
