Creating a digital key

The vehicle owner can create a new digital key at any time in settings.

 Note

Digital key availability

Some devices might not be compatible with the digital key. If you're not sure if your device supports digital keys, check with your phone's manufacturer.

Before starting to set up a digital key in your vehicle, make sure that:
  • the vehicle is stationary
  • all the doors are closed
  • both your vehicle and your phone are connected to the internet
  • both your vehicle and your phone are updated to the latest software version
  • Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
  • you have a valid key with you, such as a key fob or key card
  • you have access to the Polestar ID registered to the vehicle owner's account.1

 Tip

Activation link

If you have received an activation link via email, you can also use this link to start the setup process.

Press the vehicle symbol on the bottom bar and go to Settings.
Go to Profiles and select the owner profile.
Go to KeysSet up digital key.

Follow the guide.

You should have received a pairing code via email. When prompted, enter the pairing code into your phone's wallet app.

If pairing is successful, your digital key appears in your phone's wallet app.

 Tip

If your vehicle doesn't seem to recognize your digital key at a distance, try turning your phone's Bluetooth setting off and then on again.

Sharing a key

You, as the vehicle owner, can share a digital key to another phone number. That phone number receives an SMS to log into their wallet app, and the key then appears in their wallet app as a card.

 Note

To share your digital key, the person you share it with needs to have the same brand of phone.
  1. 1 If you aren't the vehicle owner, you can't create your own digital key. You need to ask the owner to share their digital key with you instead.
