The LED headlights and rear light-blade of the Polestar 2 use energy-efficient technology and an intricate, minimal design to provide better visibility.
LED technology has opened up new possibilities for car lighting design. We’ve worked with sophisticated shapes to create a unique visual identity. When you see the origami-inspired headlights and the futuristic rear light-blade, you immediately identify them as features of a Polestar. An unmistakable design, especially at night.
There’s more to the headlights than their signature look. LED daytime running lights illuminate the hammer-shaped guide in the headlight units and automatically change their intensity depending on the ambient light situation. Toggling from low to high beam is done away with, meaning the best possible illumination in all conditions.
As well as the adaptive LEDs in the rear light-blade, the Polestar 2 also uses LEDs and reflectors in the hammer-shape headlights. The LEDs enjoy a long life and low energy consumption, while delivering excellent visibility in the dark thanks to their strong, white light.
It’s not just the unique shape that distinguishes the rear light-blade from other lighting designs. Each of the 288 LEDs inside it can turn on and off individually, and also change its intensity depending on the surroundings. The LEDs shine brighter on a sunny day to improve visibility. When it’s dark the system dims the lights, saving power and increasing energy efficiency.
