Technical Planning
One of our main areas of service is Technical Planning and Management Support for complex projects. Polestar's team of technical planning and management experts have years of experience in a broad range of technical projects.
- Senior Polestar staff have served on the independent safety and technical oversight committees for a number of companies including BNFL Inc., Consolidated Edison, Northeast Utilities, Virginia Power, GPU Nuclear, and Southern California Edison. Polestar also provides executive speaker training to improve public communications skills for senior level industry executives.
- Polestar staff played key management and technical roles in the completion of the U. S. utility industry’s Advanced Light Water Reactor (ALWR) Program. This project included the development of detailed technical requirements documents and certification of three ALWR designs under a program sponsored by EPRI and DOE.
- Polestar has chaired the technical advisory group (TAG) for the DOE Hanford Spent Nuclear Fuel Project for several years. Polestar is the technical lead for the DOE EM-20 National Facility Deactivation Committee (NFDI).
- When BNFL, Inc. acquired Sierra Nuclear Corporation, Polestar provided management support to the new management team, including a Program for Excellence to guide the company to improved quality and regulatory compliance. A set of Performance Indicators was developed and implemented to monitor the company’s progress on its improvement program.
- Polestar has recently created a web site that compiles and analyzes design, performance and operating experience data from U. S. nuclear plants to facilitate access to and analysis of performance data.
